What is a Bulk Carrier Ship?

A Bulk Carrier ship is a ship which carries cargo worth tons and tons from one port to another port.
The word Bulk Carrier itself gives the indication of this type of a ship.These ships are designed in such a way such as to carry cargo in huge quantities,that's why the word "BULK" is mentioned.

This a ship where the cargo is stored in an unpackaged form.
The ship has got a number of holds both above deck and below deck,such as to carry the maximum amount of cargo possible.

The cargo being taken from one port to another port could be Bauxite/Alumina,Bricks,Cattle,Cement,Coal,Grains,
Iron Ore,Phosphates,Rice,Salt,Sugar.

The most common form of cargo carried in bulk carriers is Iron Ore, followed by Grains and other commodities.

The bulk carriers carries cargoes and it is measured in DWT (Dead Weight Tonnage).

The MS Berge Stahl is the largest bulk carrier ship in the world. She is registered in Stavanger, Norway. She was previously registered in Monrovia, Liberia.

An iron ore carrier, the Berge Stahl has a capacity of 364,767 metric tons of deadweight (DWT). She was built in 1986 by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The Berge Stahl is 1,122 feet (343 m), has a beam, or width, of 208.3 feet (65 m), and a draft, or depth in the water, of 23 m.
